HMAS Hobart Scuttling

In addition to design and manufacture, AET specialises in novel implementations and project work. For example, the scuttling of the HMAS Hobart, on 5 November 2002, to create an artificial reef.

For the sinking, linear charge casings were specially annealed so that the finished charge could be readily matched to the hull curvature. A fundamental requirement of the application was to keep the total explosive mass as low as possible, in the interests of minimising environmental impact.
